Be safe and know how to utilize your firearms

I recently received the following e-mail from the NRA
Training Division which stated......
Florida statutes and NRA's training standards have requirements that must be
met by Certified Instructors conducting training to satisfy Florida's
requirements for Right-To-Carry permits. Students who receive anything less than
complete training do not meet the state's legal requirements for right to carry,
nor do they meet NRA's intended criteria to pass the course. While Florida law
allows several different types of courses to qualify for their concealed weapons
permit, all fall under a basic criterion that citizens "demonstrate competence
with a firearm..." (Florida statute section 790.06, subsection (1) (h). For CCW,
the requirement to demonstrate competence with a firearm does NOT allow the use
of anything other than fully functional ammunition and genuine cartridge
firearms in the courses. Specifically, Air Soft or other air-driven guns are not
acceptable. Also unacceptable is any ammunition that lacks a component or
renders the ammunition ineffective for the intended purpose of genuine firearms
training and use. Further, Florida law requires that you maintain records
certifying that you "observed the student safely handle and discharge the
firearm." Safe handling and discharge must be demonstrated with a cartridge
firearm and fully functional ammunition. Instructors who are found to be
intentionally disregarding these state and course requirements will have their
certifications revoked. More information on satisfactorily conducting CCW
training may be found in Florida Statute section 790.06, subsections (2) (h)
2,3, or 7. Thank you for strictly adhering to these mandates in your work to
help Floridians exercise their rights and to responsibly use firearms in
self-protection.
Be careful of instructors out there that have you shoot one
shot, or use paint ball or airsoft guns or even have you discharge a firearm
into a clearing chamber. The gun show type training is notorious for this "one
shot" practice, and there are some NRA Instructors in Brandon and Tampa doing
the same thing.
For those of you that are serious about CCW, knowing how to
deploy and shoot your weapon is only a small part of the picture.
Protect yourself in the future against civil liability and
receive the proper training.
