Shotgun

This course teaches the student how to effectively and safely utilize a shotgun. Upon completion of this course, the student should be proficient with:

bulletFundamentals of shooting a shotgun
bulletAmmunition selection and management
bulletPatterning
bulletZones of fire
bulletUnderstanding the characteristics of buckshot, birdshot, and slugs
bulletIndoor and outdoor firing positions
bulletWeapon retention (i.e., how to keep your weapon from being taken by an attacker)
bulletClose Quarters Conflict
bulletSling use, mounting from a slung position

Equipment: (Equipment can be provided, upon request in advance)

  • Eye and ear protection
  • Service type shotgun with carry strap (sling)

    Ammunition:
    bullet100 rounds birdshot
    bullet50 rounds buckshot
    bullet50 rounds slug

    This course is additionally offered as night shoot. The entire class is instructed in low light conditions and incorporates the tactical use of a flashlight and other lighting methods. The night shoot teaches various target identification and sighting techniques specific to limited visibility. Basically, the student reinforces the day class instruction and learns additional skills while under the cover of darkness.

    Advanced Shotgun

    This course teaches the student how to effectively and safely utilize a shotgun. This class reinforces the Basic Shotgun course. Upon completion of this course, the student should be proficient with:

     
    bulletFundamentals of shooting a shotgun
    bulletAmmunition selection and management
    bulletEngaging multiple targets
    bulletShooting from a barricade
    bulletIncreased distances
    bulletSlug shooting
    bulletVarious firing positions and actions for each
    bulletRunning engagement courses
    bulletIntroduction to "Specialty Ammunition"
    bulletClose Quarters Conflict
    bulletSling use, mounting from a slung position

    Equipment: (Equipment can be provided, upon request in advance)
     
    bulletEye and ear protection
    bulletService type shotgun with carry strap (sling)

    Ammunition:
     
    bullet200 rounds birdshot
    bullet50 rounds buckshot
    bullet50 rounds slug
